Some thoughts and discussions from me.

Thank you so much for sharing the excitement of announcing my pregnancy with you all. From your comments here to on Instagram to your emails, I wanted to give every single one of you a great big hug <3

I’m thrilled to share our journey with you along the way (–and I absolutely hate lying and sneaking around, even for a good reason!)

Today marks 14.5 weeks, which I think is one week into the second trimester. Although, I’m not 100% sure. Turns out, there’s a LOT I didn’t/don’t know about pregnancy, the do’s and don’t, can’s and cant’s, and rules and regulations.

One common theme I’ve noticed, is that after telling each person, there’s a list of questions to follow. So, I thought I’d write about them here in an FAQ post of sorts.

Here we go!

Initial Deets

How did you find out you were pregnant?

I talked about how I found out more in this post. I’ve honestly taken tons pregnancy tests (some were before we were trying, hoping for just one line, heh, but most were hoping for two,) so it blew me out of the water to see it finally happen.

When did you tell your family?

We told our parents just about a week after finding out. We facetimed my parents in Florida, who started crying and were so happy. I’m not very good at cutesy announcements, so it was basically like, “Hi! Got something to tell you… I’m pregnant!” lol

I also told my friend Jessica at like, 6 or 7 weeks because she was visiting for the weekend, and would know something was up if I didn’t drink the whole weekend. Plus, she’s my oldest friend, and someone I literally trust with all my heart.

I also told Tonja, my friend and training partner, right off the bat, since I knew it’d affect my workouts.

We started telling close friends and family around 9 weeks. Shane and I were actually going to a beer festival with our closest friends here in CO, and as soon as I walked in without a wrist band and cup, my friends immediately asked, “where’s your cup?! let’s get you one!”

My face turned beet red, and I I think I literally said, “ah f***. I’ve gotta tell you — I’m pregnant.” LOL Regardless, they were all super happy for us, and drank plenty of beer in my place 😉

Holding Shane’s beer

— and I didn’t realize how much my loved ones’ responses would affect me. A couple responses were a bit surprising…but most were met with love and excitement. My friend, Katie, even encouraged me to start a Pinterest board, and has made a couple baby purchases!!

I told everyone else after our 12 week appointment, and then we made it interwebz-official in the 13th week.

How long were you trying?

I mentioned this in my last post, but we’ve been trying for quite a while. Only a few people knew this, because it’s a very vulnerable thing to share. I was beginning to think it just wasn’t in the cards for us.

What was your first pregnancy symptom?

Sore breasts. That was my only constant pregnancy symptom the entire first trimester, too. My boobs hurt like they do when you ovulate, but even more so.

Because of my lack of symptoms, and the bleeding/spotting that started in week 6, those 2-3 weeks of my life were a pretty big blur. There were many a scares during those few weeks.

Why were you bleeding?

Because of the bleeding, I had ultrasounds at 6, 8, and 9 weeks. It turns out, the bleeding was likely caused by an external cervical polyp, which isn’t a concern to the baby or to me. My doctor described it as a freckle, which usually comes off during pregnancy or the birth process.

Workouts

Will you still train/have your workouts changed?

I plan to continue to train clients up until I give birth, and start back up when I get the go ahead. Shane works from home, which will be convenient to run to the gym for a couple hours to work with clients. I’m also grateful for all of my online clients and programs <3

My workouts have changed some, in the following ways:

  • I’ve decreased from 4 lifting workouts/week to 3
  • I supplement those workouts with one night of volleyball (HIIT, fo’ sho,) 1 hour of moderately intense hiking, 1-2 treadmill hill walking interval workouts, and daily walks
  • I’ve decreased the amount of weight I’m lifting in my squat, deadlift, and bench
  • I no longer take pre-workout (sigh)

However — during those few weeks where I was bleeding and didn’t know why, I admittedly barely worked out. I was too scared that it’s what could be contributing to the bleeding. I even bailed on a few volleyball games.

Several people have voiced their surprise at my continuing to play volleyball, as there are conflicting “rules” about it (like so many things.) I’ve decided to continue playing as long as I’m comfortable with it. I’m careful not to dive or run into anyone, and if I feel like I’m working too hard, I back off just a touch.

Have you had any cravings or aversions?

There was one week where I was craving Crazy Bread like mad. We finally grabbed a bag the next week, and I completely smashed it. Then the craving went away. There was also a week where I was craving coffee cake, and that went away after I had some, too.

Other than that, fresh fruit and smoothies sounds good — which apparently tipped some of you off that I was pregnant! I thought you’d think it was just because the weather was turning warm 🙂

As far as aversions go…not really. There was one week where coffee sounded gross, so I actually took advantage of that and gave it up around week 8 or 9.

Then there was one week where vegetables didn’t sound amazing, but I could still eat them fine, so I did.

How much weight have you gained so far?

As of my last appointment, 2.5 weeks ago, I was down a pound, but I’d guess that I’ve gained a pound or two since then. I’m not sure how I wouldn’t have, honestly, as I’ve definitely been more yolo with my food!

When is your due date?

October 13th, 2017

Will you find out the sex?

HECK. YES. While I appreciate those who wait for the delivery room surprise, I am not one of those people. We actually just found out, and will be sharing in a couple days 🙂

Any guesses??

Do you have a name picked out?

We have a middle name picked out, but we’re deciding between about 8 first names. Nothing solid or concrete yet.

How many kids do you want?

One…maybe two. But I hear babies are like tattoos, so we’ll see 😉

Are you showing yet?

Mayyybe?

A little bit, but I don’t think anyone can really tell. But we can feel my bump when I’m lying down, for sure! (And don’t mind my morning-face and fuzzy socks; this was about 2 minutes after hopping out of bed yesterday, LOL)

Any baby purchases yet?

Not yet, but I did make a couple pinterest boards, and started an Amazon registry. We’ll also start decorating what will be the nursery soon 🙂
