Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Good morning! I hope you all had a great Monday Although mine was packed with teaching classes, training clients, and KIND work, it was a really good one! I got a couple great compliments on my work on a couple things, and it just really set the tone for a great day. I’m like a dog. Just pat me on the head and say I did a good job, and I’ll be your friend ha! Just kidding. Kind of.
And today’s a good day because I’m starting it off by training clients, including a new one () and then training myself.
I’m digging the front squats lately. And the deadlift. And chin ups. Basically, right now, when I go into the gym to train, I start off with one or two main lifts, and then 4-6 accessory lifts, which are still compound, multi-joint exercises. On one of the days, I focus on front squats.
(eeek, get those elbows up, Paige!)
But you know what sucks? Sometimes the sole squat rack in the gym is taken, and there’s no hope of “working in.” Just like the deadlift, when this happens, we have to rely on exercise alternatives to the front squat.
1. Goblet Squat
2. Dumbbell Reverse Lunge
3. Dumbbell Front Squat
or you could always do an assisted pistol squat…
6. Step Ups

I love all these exercises! I’ve actually never tried front BB squats, only DB. I’ve also recently been trying out the assisted pistol squats using TRX and I love it. Trying to build up the strength to do them without assistance. 🙂

Yesss! One day I’ll get them.
I love alternatives. I’m always afraid a machine I need will be taken and I won’t know what to do with myself. Usually I just move on to my next exercise and come back to it, but these are great!

I’ve never actually tried front barbell squats – I’ll have to give it a shot sometime! And I’m officially a little bit TRX obsessed – I’ve been going to the classes my gym offers and it’s such a fabulous workout!

The TRX is such an awesome tool.
We just worked on the front squat yesterday and I had to laugh at your elbows. I was having the same problem!!

Bah! I have to think about pointing the elbows up the ENTIRE time, or else they sink.
Love this! Especially since I had to cancel my gym membership as we are moving and haven’t found a new gym yet. Lots of these I can do at home 🙂

Exactly! Just need a couple dumbbells (or even just body weight!)
I love the barbell but it’s always great to know how to do similar moves when I don’t have access to one!
