Some thoughts and discussions from me.

You guys know that I absolutely flipping love my job, right?

From the nitty gritty of writing programs and researching the latest fitness + nutrition methods, to digging deeper with clients to see progress, to seeing and celebrating progress, results, and transformations. I can’t think of one job that would be more fulfilling to me.

That said, if I had to narrow it down to a specialty or a niche, I’d say I specialize at helping busy women from 25-45 lose body fat and transform their shape and physique. It’s downright awesome to hear my clients talk about their transformed physiques – from seeing their abs pop, discovering a newfound booty, or having to go down a size in their wedding dress! (that last one just happened last week with an amazing client <3 )

But – from start to finish, there’s SO much more to it than getting a banging physique. Because while my programs and coaching helps you drop body fat, gain strength, and muscle definition, my overarching goal is to help you (women) feel better about themselves. To add to your quality of life.

Most of the clients I work with primarily have fat loss and body composition goals, which is great! But it’s also imperative that you concentrate on a few other key points.

I Will Help You Get Back in Shape, but I Also Need You to Do This:

1. Realize your worth right now.

Maybe you want to tighten up to look a certain way in a bikini on spring break. Or perhaps you just want to feel good and  fit in your old jeans again.  Or, maybe you just want to lean out a bit and increase your energy. Regardless of the reason, it’s absolutely imperative to fully know that you are an amazing, kick ass woman just as you are right now.

Achieving one of the goals mentioned above (or whatever your goals/reason might be) might increase your confidence and how you feel, which is really great, but it doesn’t make you any more or less awesome than you are right now.

That cliche that it’s ok to completely accept yourself as you are, while working toward changing your body? It’s totally spot on, but – I also know from experience that it can be a tough concept to put into action. So, I think it’s important to work on accepting yourself right now, while you’re working on your physique goals.

2. Have a strength – or a “do”-related goal.

Once you set a goal, it can be very easy to fixate on the end result a little too much while doing what’s necessary to get there. It tends to lead to impatience, and thusly burn out. In addition to putting the focus on the action goals, I also like to create some sort of strength – or do – goal.

For strength goals, think doing X # of proper push ups, chin ups, X weight of squat, dead lifts, etc. It helps you to celebrate not only your physical progress, but also your strength and confidence in the gym. In fact, I always always have some sort of exercise that I’m working toward.

I actually have to rein it in so I’m not juggling too many balls when it comes to strength goals. (I’ve recently hit my pull up goal, and am continuing to progress on that, as well as pistol squats and archer push ups!)

3. Remember that this goal – and the action steps taken toward it – should enhance your life.

This basically means that if any goal – or action steps taken to get there – leads to obsession or stress, it needs to be modified, stat. I first and foremost prioritize my clients’ health, and that means I never write any crash diets or quick fixes, nor do I write any workouts that forewarn injury.

Some of my clients are perfectly fine tracking grams of macronutrients, while with others we use portions. Some thrive on detailed carbohydrate cycling plans, while for others it’s too stressful.

You need to be honest with yourself on this one, too. For example, if you’re just bummed because you’re missing your nightly glass of wine or ice cream, that might not necessarily mean that it’s taking away from your quality of life 😉 (But – if it’s stressful, it could mean there’s a deeper issue there.)
