Some thoughts and discussions from me.

Get this. The average woman will have gone on 61 diets by the time she’s 45 years old. SIXTY. ONE.

So if you’ve ever felt like you’re on a never-ending quest to lose weight, clearly, you’re not alone. This fact clearly upsets me for a few reasons, but mostly because my heart goes out to every single woman who feels like she’s constantly trying to lose weight.

In fact, part of my mission as a trainer and nutrition coach is to end the constant dieting by helping you reach your goals once and for all, and then move on to maintaining it.

How? Well, there’s a lot that goes into my programming, but at its purest and simplest terms? It really boils down to one thing and it’s one that I take into HA-YUGE consideration when designing my online boot camps, nutrition, and training programs.

It’s a core focus when I’m building the parameters around our community, our check-ins, and our programming itself.

The #1 Way You’ll Reach Your Weight Loss Goals – and Keep Them Long Term

Compliance.

As long as the program you’re diving into is a sound one (and puh-lease do your research, because there are some not-so-great (or safe) programs being released) and one that has a focus on the goals you want to achieve, it will get you results if you do two things:

  • Follow the program, and
  • STICK with the program

Because that’s what compliance is, right? Following something + following it consistently = Compliance.

Compliance

Take, for instance, my online boot camps. I pride myself in building a program that really promotes consistency, participation, accountability, and – you guessed it – compliance. And every single client of mine who’s standing (or squatting, rather) strong at the end of that program has both exercised compliance – and sees major results.

“I feel that my jeans are getting looser and I have made it down to 141.5, only 1.5 from my goal of 140! If I hit that, it would be 7 lbs in 6 weeks, which would be awesome.” – Stacy, current boot camper

But…is it that easy?

Sounds super simple, right?! Well, it is! It’s incredibly simple….but it’s NOT easy.

It’s not easy because most diets and nutrition plans force us to make too stringent of changes and thusly make us feel uncomfortable, if not downright miserable.

There are some sexy, buzz-worthy diet-phrases out there. When people hear about fasting, grain-free, carb cycling, it can be, well enticing. But whether it’s a diet that calls for a huge caloric or…not eating at all for a day, many meal plans out there make us white knuckle our way through the program.

This extreme calorie deficit and very advanced techniques can lead to energy loss, fatigue, hunger, brain fog, and at worst, disordered eating habits.

At best, they  lead to being super duper hangry, but it also typically leads to burn out.

Diet industry=1 Compliance=0

That’s why it’s super important to make some changes to get results with your nutrition, but do so in a way that’s conducive with your lifestyle.

Master a Few

Many diets or programs come at us with TONS of changes – giving up food groups, sticking to a set-in-stone meal plan, and abiding by rules upon rules. This might work for a few weeks, but is far from a healthy lifestyle, and eventually, we’ll want to return back to what’s comforting and familiar to us. It’s hard to comply to a plan long-term that’s so far from our usual way of eating.

When it comes to my clients and boot campers, we come up with 3 super effective changes to make to their individual nutrition, and come up with a way to implement those changes into their daily menu. We then rely on meal planning hacks and nutrition strategies to streamline it into our weekly routine.

Willpower runs out, so I aim to make our nutrition changes as natural, and streamlined, and automatic as possible.

While I do create meal plans for my clients, I do so with compliance in mind, and nothing is absolutely set in stone. There are very detailed instructions, but there are also many substitutions and caveats.

The bottom line is that to be successful with your goals – and have them last long term, compliance is THE most important factor.

And I’m not just making this stuff up! Studies actually show that if you adhere to a plan that’s safe and that works, you’re more likely to achieve your weight loss goals.
