I love to sweat! Sweating is my favorite!
Ok – love is a strong word. But I don’t hate it, and that’s pretty close, right?
Over the past month I’ve been reviewing Bob Harper’s Black Fire workout program through DailyBurn, and to sum it up: it has made. me. sweat. If you’ve watched Bob on the Biggest Loser, you know he’s a big proponent of compound movements fashioned in a high intensity format, and that’s a pretty good general descriptor of the workouts that comprise Black Fire.
If you’ve never heard of Daily Burn before, it’s an online health and fitness platform that offers a variety of different workout programs and nutrition plans, depending on your goals.
For example, Black Fire is listed as an advanced training program for those who want to build muscle and get toned. The entire program is 60 days, and each workout is between 15-35 minutes. It was designed by the man (Mr. Harper) himself, and he claims that his program will push your limits.
While it’s focus is high intensity, it covers strength, endurance, power, balance, core, and recovery. I love that while Black Fire definitely pushes you – and pushes you hard – it also focuses on recovery and rehabilitation by programming in active recovery routines. Of course, these are only after 5 aggressive training days beforehand.
Gotta earn that recovery!
Throughout the 60 days you’ll cycle through 12 different training sessions and 7 recovery sessions. Of course, the workouts and your workout schedule gets progressively more difficult as you go through the program.
The workouts themselves are follow-along style, meaning there’s a complete video for you to follow along in your workout the entire time. Bob likes to focus on scoring your workouts, AMRAP style, so it almost feels like you’re competing with the participants in the video.
Oh..wait…is that just my competitive side coming out? 😉
Here’s a 15-second video I posted on Facebook last night of me doing the Strategic Endurance workout.

It’s a butt-kicker, but one that I think is also pretty doable. It includes 3 rounds of burpees with a step over, dips, and butterfly sit ups, each done in two minute spurts. You never realize how long two minutes is until you’re doing burpees and dips during the two minutes…
As far as equipment goes, it’s pretty minimal. All you need is a box, dumbbells, medicine ball, a dowel or broomstick, and a mat.
To sum it up, Black Fire will be great for you if…
In fact, I’ve sent several online clients over to Daily Burn recently! You might know that I have a consultation with all prospective clients, to get more information and to really determine if we’d be a good fit. However, I personally only work with clients who can commit to hitting the number of workouts they set before we begin working together in their schedule each week. This ensures the program I write for them brings success, and it ensures they aren’t wasting their money.
For more information on Daily Burn’s Black Fire, you can visit their website for a free 30 day trial, or find them on Twitter or Facebook.

This looks like a workout that I would LOVE! In the past, I have done most of P90X with my husband and I have also worked through Turbo Fire. I, usually, end up modifying any workout plan because I teach aerobics and run so I always have to make time for both of those!

1) This is an AWESOME review!!
2) I LOVE DAILY BURN and not just because my best friend works there.
3) I don’t have a box but hope to add one once we move!

Sounds like an intense workout! I love shorter more intense workouts. I’d rather be moving every single second for 30 minutes rather than stretch it out into 45 minutes.

What’s the weight of the medicine ball?
10 or 12 #
Can you use a 3 ft dowel? Also could you use a 9″ step stool to modify box jumps? I am not physically able to jump 12″
