Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Hi friends! I hope you’ve had a lovely week, and have something fun planned for this weekend.
So, I haven’t been shy about proclaiming that I don’t like to spend a lot of time prepping, baking, or cooking food. I’m all about that tasty and convenient life, and I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone on that.
Recently, I was introduced to About Time’s new protein drink – ProHydrate:
ProHydrate is a ready-to-drink protein beverage that packs in 20 grams of protein with only 95 calories in each 12 ounce bottle. Ready-to-drink protein drinks have been around for a while, right? Well, what’s super cool and different about this drink is that it’s a clear, fruity drink – not a milk based beverage like most of the other protein drinks out there.
Yes, it’s still whey protein – but it tastes like fruit juice! They’ve been my life savers when I’m rushing around teaching classes and training clients. I can’t always get to a meal exactly when I want it, but I can sip on one of these while I’m training a client to stave off hunger until lunch.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I’m a long time fan of About Time products because they’ve managed to make their products not only tasty but also junk-free. Like all of their other products, ProHydrate is free of artificial colors or flavors, gluten free, and sweetened with stevia. Oh, an most importantly – tasty 🙂 It comes in Raspberry Lemonade and Orange Mango, and while I enjoyed both flavors, Orange Mango was my favorite, because I’m a sucker for anything tropical flavored.
Other Ways to Enjoy
While taking the bottle straight to the dome is the easiest route of consumption, I’ve also been using them in my acai and smoothie bowls. If you’ve ever made an acai bowl, you probably know that it tastes best using fruit juice – and not using protein powder. Well, whenever I make a smoothie, I like for it to provide both my carbs and protein, so I’ve simply been using ProHydrate to solve both of those issues: it tastes like fruit juice, and the protein is already in it! No need to add powder to the mix.
Perfect!
The other day, I went a step further with it and incorporated it into my pre-workout. So, I love how pre-workout supplements make me feel when I lift heavy or run sprints, but I can’t take them on an empty stomach. However, sometimes I’m just not hungry and while I’d rather just take the pre-workout and go, I know it’s not good for me. ProHydrate yet again became the solution as I simply mixed a scoop of Aux (my pre-workout of choice) into the ProHydrate bottle, and sipped it on the way to the gym.
(and had a killer workout, if I might say so myself ;-))

About Time also sent me some of their new protein pancake mix to review, this time in the chocolate chip flavor (I’ve tried their cinnamon spice flavor, and talked about it in this video.)
I really enjoyed the chocolate chip flavor, too. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to, I think it’d be the cinnamon spice, because the cinnamon chips in it are just so dang good! Of course, their pancake mix is also additive and preservative free, gluten-free, and all you need to make it is water. In a half cup serving, there’s 9 grams of fat, 21 grams of protein, 31 grams of carbohydrate, and 6 grams of fiber.
Lastly, if you think ProHydrate or other About Time products might be for you – or would just like to learn a bit more about them, please join me for our Twitter chat on May 21st at 9:00pm Eastern with the hashtag #tryabouttime.

I haven’t ever tried them, but I did start doing the little bit of protein + pre-workout while training for my last marathon and it was a golden idea!! Especially with the heat in florida i just couldn’t stomach a big meal before a long run.

I think I may need to add this in to my fueling now that half ironman training is ramping up! The chocolate chip flavor sounds great! Not sure if I would like the juice kind though only if its not super sweet!
