Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Music is such a powerful motivator in fitness, don’t you agree?
I took an indoor cycling class at the studio I teach at this past Saturday, and truly experienced how a song with a great beat can magically refresh the legs. (I don’t notice during the classes that I teach because all of the songs are motivating to me…I pick ’em! haha)
It was a “Dynamic Endurance” class, which lately for me, endurance cardio is something that I don’t do much of, and it kicked. my. a$$. But, when a song came on with a powerful beat, I was suddenly able to push myself harder! The power of a bumpin’ beat.
However, different songs tend to do different things for me. For example, the playlist I listen to when I lift is far different than the one when I’m doing hill sprints…anyone else the same? Do you tend to alter your playlist for which activity you’ll be doing?
For example, when I run, sprint, or spin, I’m all about upbeat songs with a good, recognizable beat. When I’m lifting, well, let’s just say I’m glad no one else can hear what’s coming through my ear buds. It’s generally rap, and it’s generally vulgar.
And then when I’m walking, I’m listening to easy, chill, upbeat beats. Or a podcast, but that’s another post for another day.
So, I thought I’d share the three playlists with you all. You just have to promise not to judge me for my lifting playlist, mmk? Pinkie promise?!
3 Different Playlists for Lifting, Sprinting, and Walking

Songs to Sprint To
(sidenote: I had a really hard time not naming the above “Songs to which You’d Sprint”….damn dangling preposition!)
Some of my faves from this list:
Rap for Resistance Training
aaand I’m gonna go ahead and put a NSFW disclaimer here.
Power Walking Playlist (Chill)
The song that I call my “Life Motto Song” is on this playlist:
It’s just so good! I could listen that song on repeat for DAYS.
This Week’s Workouts
Workouts this week so far have been a good mix of lifting, sprinting (whether on a bike or a hill,) and power walking. In fact, I’ve added on 20 minutes of hill walking onto my lifting workouts because of this week’s Fitbit Blogger Challenge!
This week’s challenge is to add 20 minutes on to your workout to increase your steps. At first I thought that seemed like a lot, but for me, it’s a matter of getting out of bed when I actually wake up, as opposed to lying there with my eyes closed, rolling around.
Plus, the extra 20 minute walk gave me time to scroll through everyone’s #fitandfestive check-ins 🙂
Yesterday I was enjoying the inspiration and accountability so much, that I totally missed the 20 minute mark – ha!
Turkey day is tomorrow! Are you going to do the Turkey Day Tabata Workout?
Your Turn: Comment below with one song you are working out to lately!
For really hard, long intervals during my bike workouts, nothing beats Nine Inch Nails. My neighbors are probably thankful that I use headphones riding indoors.
I love the soundtrack from High School Musical and my favorite is Run it Back Again. Lol! And have you ever adjusted your FitBit to your stride length? Someone told me you can do that. I never have and what to look into it so it’s more accurate.
Thank you for the playlists!! If I go for a walk I also enjoy listening to podcast and lately I am choosing them for my runs which is great. However, some of my favorite songs right now are Jealous by Nick Jonas and Shut Up and Dance with Me by Walk the Moon.

Definitely music plays a huge part for me in my workouts. I actually have different playlists for lifting, walking, running, races, etc. I have so many songs I love lately, but my favorite is Thunder Clatter by Wild Club. It’s one most people haven’t heard of,

Music is a huge motivator. I like Pitbull for a lot of my workout mixes too.

fireball –> yes, such a good one! I want to take your class
I would love that! And I YOURS! <3
Where do you teach spinning?? I haven’t seen anyplace except Flywheel use screens at the front of the room to display power/performance/etc, and I am missing Flywheel dreadfully in Denver! Feel free to email me if you’d rather not say on the blog, but I want to sign up for spin classes there!
Hey! I teach at Breakaway Cycle & Strength 🙂
