Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Some thoughts and discussions from me.
How’s that for a long title? 😉
Anything fun going on this weekend? I’m headed to a Nuggets/Cavs game tonight…excited to see LeBron!
Today I thought I’d do a fun little post on some of my favorite things lately. I used to do these types of posts nearly every Friday, and I’ve got a few things that I’ve just been loving lately.
1. My DIY Coconut Oil Deodorant
First up is my deodorant. I haven’t worn conventional deodorant – unless I’ve forgotten and had to borrow a friend’s, haha – for years now. I rotate between my homemade coconut oil deodorant and a store bought hippy/crunchy version .
I’ve actually had a few real-life friends request my recipe, so I thought I’d share it on the blog, too.
It’s SO easy, you guys.
Ingredients:
1/4 c. coconut oil, softened
1/3 c. baking soda
1/3 c. corn starch
Mix all three together and store in a jar.
I actually store mine in an old Trader Joe’s lotion container, with a spoon right next to it. Each day I just chisel a little off, and rub it right on my pits!
2. Ahnu Montara Hiking Boots
I am so very particular with shoes. If I ever wore a shoe with a narrow toe box for longer than an hour, you’d see me walking down the street, barefoot, with shoes in hand. I need me a comfy shoe. Recently, I had the opportunity to review Ahnu Hiking Boots through Fitfluential for a campaign.
I immediately broke them in during a hike to Chautauqua, and shortly after, a hike up Mount Sanitas.
Guys, I LOVE them. I typically wear Keens for hiking, but will now rotate through my Ahnu Montara boots. They have a wide enough toe box, absorb the impact of landing and stepping up big rocks, and are super comfy to boot.
They get two thumbs up from me.
3. Fabletics Athletic Wear line
If you’ve been reading for a while, or if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know I am obsessed with cute athletic wear. So when Fabletics reached out to me to try out a few of their pieces, I was completely sold. However, after looking through their website and researching the company, I was surprised to see how dang affordable their clothes were. This is so very judgmental of me, but it made me not hold my breath for awesome quality.
Boy, was I wrong. The Cobalt Eureka L/S shirt and the Cobalt Oula tank are SO soft, and the Cobalt (can you tell I loved that color? lol) Lima Capri fit and look very similar to a well-known, but expensive athletic wear store.
In fact, I’ve received more compliments about the long sleeved shirt and the capris than I do many of my other clothes.
Yes, I did receive these for free, but they aren’t paying me for my review, and I promise I would never rave about a product that I didn’t find amazing. (In fact, I just declined to review a different product from a different company I’d been sent, because I didn’t want to publish a negative review.) I’m really thinking about getting Salar Legging in Real Teal now that it’s getting colder.
4. Younique Fiber Mascara
My friend, Kristin sells Younique mascara, and reached out to me to review this fiber mascara which promises long, lush, voluminous lashes. Since I haven’t been getting my lash extensions for the past couple of months (way too time-consuming,) I jumped at the chance to find a mascara to replace the lashes I miss so much!
Younique Fiber Mascara is actually just that – fibers! Here, I’ll show ya (please don’t mind the creepy/awkward selfie sequence to follow!)
1st, you put on a coat of regular mascara, like I have on here:
Next, you put on the transferring gel that comes in your Younique container.
Doing one eye at a time, you then quickly open the fiber mascara, and apply the fibers onto your lashes. It’s wild you guys – check it out!
Here’s a comparison of one eye with mascara only, and one eye Younique-ified:
And with both eyes:
Crazy, right?
I have been wearing Younique only when going out at night for dinner or drinks or a party. When I train and teach, I typically don’t wear any mascara at all, and when I’m out during the day, I’ll just wear regular mascara (Kat Von D, which I love – my pal Lauren got me into it!) If you feel like trying it out yourself, you can learn more about it here.
The only thing I didn’t love about it was it’s a little messy to take off. I need 1-2 cotton balls per eye, rather than my usual 1/2 of one.
5. Fit and Festive!
Pssst! I’m not giving away any details just yet, but stay tuned for a FREE program and challenge I’ve designed to give you everything you need to survive the holidays 😉
Have a lovely Friday, everyone!
Wait! Before you go, what’s something you’re loving lately? What do I need to know about?! 🙂
When’s the last time you went to a basketball game?? Gosh, I think it must have been 5 or 6 years ago for me (NBA, at least.)
What kind of deodorant do you wear?
What’s 1 thing that you’re looking forward to in the next 24 hours?
Definitely making this deodorant soon! I’ve been using Dove because I bought a giant pack of it at Costco over a year ago and I don’t want to waste it, but once I am finished, I am switching over to all natural. The links with aluminum deodorant and breast cancer are too common.

You’ve intrigued me with the deodorant! And I’m headed to Moab in T-minus 3 hours for the trail half marathon tomorrow, so I’m really looking forward to that. Miraculously, the weather is supposed to be beautiful, so I’m looking forward to frolicking on the sunny trails!

I need to switch to a better deodorant alternative. I just opened my last stick of Dove, so when that is done, I will look into DIY recipes like yours.
What hippie brand do you prefer??
Did you stop using lash extensions? That fiber mascara is crazy cool!
Great post! I just got the Younique fiber lash mascara and someone posted about warming a cup of water and putting the mascara in the warm water for a minute. I did it today and it really worked well because it made everything go on nice and smooth.
I’m going to have to try the Fabletics. You never steer me wrong! 😉
Miss you, friend!
Your hair is gorgeous! Your lashes too 🙂 I haven’t tried Fabletics yet but have been eyeing a few outfits. Might have to give them a try soon!
I make the same deoderant which I LOVE! I usually add a few drops of essential oil and rotate the sent each time I make it, which seems to keep my body from adapting too much! And I am glad you dig Fabletics, I haven’t bought anything from them…yet… But the emails always intregued me!
we use the same coconut oil! as mascara obsessed as i am, i have no idea how i haven’t tried that kind yet. love it on you!
I had been getting lash extensions for the past few months and I just got them taken off.. ahhh my lashes are like half what they used to be! So sad! Did this happen to you? That mascara is definitely calling to me at this point haha
Whoa, that mascara! It looks like you are wearing fake lashes.

That mascara is insane! I have super long lashes anyway, and I would probably look crazy with them. It looks cool for a night out on the town, though!
Fabletics is awesome! I’m actually writing a review about them this week! Their leggings are my favorite!
Thanks for this post! Can’t wait to learn more about the challenge!

This is very unique product for me. I never ever heard of this. I like the effect mascara give but find them a little sticky and problematic little later. I didn’t even know something like this. Thank you so much for this.
