The other day, I was about to meet up with my good friend, Katie, and received a text from her asking me if I was planning on wearing regular clothes or workout clothes to our outing. My reply: there’s a difference?

The majority of my job includes working in a spin/TRX studio, training clients in a gym, or training clients online and writing at home behind a computer. Alas, workout clothes are my regular clothes. In fact, the only time I put on makeup or wear anything but spandex is usually on Friday or Saturday night. It’s not glamorous, but it sure is comfy Winking smile

Yes, I wear workout clothes about 90% of the time, and over the years, have developed quite a good sense about what works for my body during a workout and what doesn’t work. Recently, I had the opportunity to put those determinations to the test.

I was recently given the chance to review a couple items from the Target® C9 activewear collection, the Sporty Layered Run Tank and the Run Short shorts:

The tank is semi-fitted, moisture-wicking fabric with a built-in sports bra. The shorts are made of the same fabric with built-in briefs, and inseam of 3.5 inches and a front pocket.

I tested the items out with a trail run earlier this week. I’m getting SO into running trails lately. It’s so much different than running on the road, and it’s super zen-like. I don’t keep track of my time, mileage, or any of those other things. It’s just me running through the woods and over the mountains with the birds (and other, scarier animals that I try not to think about.)

I took them on about a 50-minute run, which I thought gave me enough time to give them a fair review. I’d made sure to run long enough to get semi-sweaty (fyi – living in Colorado, I stay SO much drier while exercising outdoors) to test out that moisture-wicking fabric Winking smile

When I got back from my run, I grabbed my yoga mat and did a quick upper body workout that focuses on the shoulders.

The workout I did was the Fitsugar Target®: Shoulders workout:

My thoughts on the apparel?

Pros:

  • Super cute, and I loved that Target® provides matching tops and bottoms without being too matchy-matchy
  • Both pieces were very light and breathable
  • I love the built-in bra. One less piece of clothing to have to deal with. Same with the built-in briefs in the shorts
  • Very comfortable. I wasn’t tugging and pulling on anything during my run
  • The shorts are a great length – I’m not a fan of super short shorts or too long shorts. These were right in the middle

Cons:

  • The built-in bra top doesn’t provide that much support. However, rarely have any of the tops with built-in bras that I’ve tried on. Would be good for a lower impact sport like spinning or yoga or lifting
  • As with a lot of Target® C9 activewear clothing, I had to size up. I’m usually a medium, and a medium was just a little too snug.

All in all, I’m happy with the look, fit, and functionality of the  Target® C9 activewear collection I tested out, and I’m happy to have them as part of my “regular” wardrobe Winking smile Plus, they’re buy one, get one half off right now – score!
