Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Today’s my parents’ last day here visiting, but I’m going to try not to think about it until the very last minute (because we know what happens then.) It’s been such a fun last few days. Whenever people come to visit, I feel like I’m on vacation, too! While it’s not good for my workload, it is good for my love and fun load. And my fun load is full
On Thursday after training a few clients and teaching a morning class, my mom and I headed down to Pearl Street for some shopping and people-watching.
You can always guarantee a good show while perusing the shops on Pearl, and that day there was an excellent violinist along with a nine year old boy playing the fiddle!
They drew quite the crowd and were very impressive. We spent a couple hours shopping, stopping in several favorites, including Athleta, Prana, some local shops, and Free People.
After some shopping, we stopped in my favorite lunch spot in Boulder, Shine.
Oh, I love Shine!! Everything is organic, and most of it from local farms and establishments. Along with a Liberation beer, we had the ruby red trout over roasted vegetables and a roll with yam butter, which was sweetly delicious.
Yum.
After a few more stops, we came home, met my dad and Shane, and played a couple games of Euchre (all of which my dad and I won…ahem!) Niko couldn’t even bring them luck, as cute as she looked, smooshed up underneath our glass table.
Any time my parents come visit us, or Shane and I visit my parents, you can always guarantee we’ll play at least one game of euchre. It’s just what we do when we all get together. I think it’s a big Midwest card game, too, because Shane and I haven’t been able to find anyone who plays out here in Colorado! I’m usually my moms partner, but this week I was my dad’s, and like I said, we whooped some serious butt!
For dinner we went to Oskar Blues where I had a burger the size of my face, and some sweet potato fries.
OB is one of my fave restaurants, and I think everyone agreed the food was delicious!
Friday, their last full day here in Colorado, we had on the plan to go down to Morrison to see the Red Rocks, and then the short trip over to Golden to visit Coors Brewery. My dad’s always been a big fan of Coors beers, so I thought it’d be cool to see how it’s made (like Shane and I did here!) And, well, as far as Red Rocks go, they speak for themselves:
I’d love to go to a concert here this summer. John Mayer and Sublime are playing – as is Bruno Mars. I kinda hate most of BM’s songs, though…so he’d probably be out
pretty, pretty red rocks.
They loved it!
Good thing, because otherwise our trip would have been a waste. When we got to Coors brewery, the wait line for the shuttle bus was 2 HOURS. We all looked at each other, thinking the same thing – not worth it. Instead, we came back here and toured Oskar Blues brewery instead.
I’ve been on several brewery tours in Colorado, but they never get old. They do always seem to reignite my passion for beer, though!
That’s a lotta passion
By this time, we were all pretty beat. Speaking beat, we played another couple hands of Euchre, where my dad and I beat my mom and Shane. Yet again Then we all ordered and ate a bunch of pizza, and listened to the very first big thunderstorm we’ve had since moving to Colorado back in December! It was actually kind of awesome. I like thunderstorms a lot more when we don’t have them every other day like we did in Illinois.
Then this morning I taught boot camp, which my mom, and of course Shane, joined in on! And now I’ve got a BUNCH of work to catch up on. Have a good one, friends!
Do you play euchre?
Do you enjoy thunderstorms?
I’m headed out to Boulder today!! I just added Shine to my list of places to go. Oskar Blues was already on the list 🙂

Just so you know for next time – you don’t have to take the shuttle to the Coors brewery. You can just park in the brewery parking lot instead of the shuttle lot. They don’t advertise that, but it’s free to park there and then you can just walk straight into the brewery.
Seriously?! I figured you couldn’t take the tour unless you rode the shuttle over, in order to control the amount of people going through at a time.
You and your mama look alike! You are such a good tour guide!! The roll with yam butter and fries look so good!! Clearly I”m a carbaholic 😉
I love getting to play tour guide in Colorado – so many outdoory activities to do! Sounds like you did a great job. 🙂

We have had a serious case of thunderstorms this past week and I love them! Even the ones that shake the walls and light up the whole house. Though I should admit, I’ve never even heard of that card game…?!

I remember my parents teaching me how to play euchre a couple of years ago, but I definitely don’t remember now…it’s a pretty complicated game!

I think that always happens when you live away from family-I’m always playing tour guide when people come to visit! I do think it would be a lot more fun to do it in Colorado, however 🙂

i’ve never heard of that game before! i can’t even pronounce it hahah but i love card games so i think i would be definitely down to play! sounds like you guys had such a blast! my first and only brewery tour was at the guiness factory – i don’t even count it as a real tour because it was so staged – i was meh about it but the jameson distillery was soooo much better! hope you get to a concert there this summer! it looks like a perfect venue!
I’ve never played Euchre, but it sounds fun!
I like the occasional thunderstorm, but they always seem to pop up and the worst times in DC.
I love playing tour guide when family visits. So much fun! I’m glad you guys had a great time.

Bruno Mars was pretty awesome in concert, but I guess if you don’t like the songs it may not be so awesome for you….I’d think John Mayer would be fun to see though.
