Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Goooood morning, my friends.
My brother and his girlfriend, Carrie, left Colorado yesterday. Of course I shoved my emotions down and out of the way until the very last second when they were leaving, and the water works turned on. I hate when people leave me. Coincidentally, the minute after the left, I looked at the clock and realized I had approximately 6 minutes to get dressed and over to my favorite yoga class. One of the perks of living across the street from my studio is that that’s feasible.
Once again, the water works turned on, but this time the ones on my skin. I twisted, sweat, and handstood (well, tried) it out, and felt so much better at the end as I lay in savasana. I also plugged in my salt lamp that I got this weekend in Estes Park.
I bought it because it’s pretty, but it’s also supposed to clean the air, reduce anxiety and depression, ease insomnia, remove airborne bacteria, balance serotonin, and more. It also really does taste like salt…
Anyway, since I just admitted that I tasted lamp, perhaps this is a pretty good segue way into to Colorado crunchy granola hippie talk.
Since moving to Colorado, I’ve experienced a number of instances where I stop and think, "wow, Paige. You’re not in Illinois anymore." I lovingly call these experiences Colorado crunchy granola hippie moments.
The other day, I came across Colorado crunchy granola hippie moment number 27. Number 27 because it’s my favorite number, and because it’s probably quite accurate. A handful of the preceding CCGH moments have surely happened on Pearl St., and a couple happened when I realized a couple girls in one of my group fitness classes made a lifestyle choice not to shave their armpits (hey, more power to ya!)
And then another when my friend, Heidi, who was visiting, and I were hanging out at a local brewery, doing some people watching. She turned to me and said, "people aren’t really cute here, are they?" Baffled, I was like, uhhh excuse me? And then she went on to explain that she meant how people dressed. As I looked around me and saw most girls without bras, dressed head to toe in Patagonia or other casual/athletic wear, I suppose I had to agree with her. (Although I maintain that it’s just a different type of cute here in Boulder County than it is in the suburbs in Illinois.)
Anyway, one of my most recent CCGH moment happened the other day, as I had 15 minutes to get ready to go to a concert after hiking and visiting breweries all day. (and number 26 was probably the moment I made the executive decision to forgo a full shower in favor of a washcloth shower and wear a hat.)
So you guys know how I’m into more natural beauty products? Well, while ago, I bought a natural deodorant with ingredients of just mineral water and sea salt. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t guard so well against perspiration.
What it does work well for? Hair! I used it as a sea salt spray in a moment of desperation. I thought it’d give me that beachy, wavy hair look that I haven’t been able to master since moving away from a climate with 99.99999% humidity.
Turns out, Naturally Fresh deodorant is a GREAT hair product. Who knew?
All right, I’ve got a full morning of training clients and teaching class. It’s an early start today (5:30 – eek!) but then my mom and i are headed to Pearl Street for some shopping
Do you use any beauty products for purposes other than intended?
I also use coconut & jojoba oil for various purposes!
Since becoming a trainer, I’ve discovered that get up and go is a new look for me. I’ve become sooooo much more relaxed in how I prep for the day when it’s a full training schedule.
That lamp sounds pretty amazing. I’m curious to know if it actually works for everything it says it will do. I’m sorry your brother left. I know that’ bums you out. I hope you enjoy the day with your mom though!

That is too funny! I’m always looking for a new hair product to try! Who knew natural deodorant could double as sea salt spray?!
Hahha too funny! When I visited Colorado back in April, it felt so different than NY. It seemed everyone was so much more relaxed and not up-tight.

hahah- sorry…I can’t get down with not shaving the armpits. That freaks me out. Dirty…smelly….and I am just not a big fan of body hair. I think thats awesome that the deodorant worked as a great hair product!
We have a salt lamp! We got it in Asheville, NC which is also a real hippie town. Unfortunately, the lamp part broke.

I use baby wipes for quick wash-ups (face and body) all the time. Not that it is too different but I started to stock up for when baby is here and have been using them for myself!

um, i need to move to colorado. i never wear a bra. i do, however, shave my armpits. the hair itself is gross, but if you don’t shave, you smell more, and that’s just beyond disgusting and i couldn’t deal with being that smelly kid.
also, the hair product i use is also a body oil, so i just use it head to toe. i’m actually thinking of switching to using coconut oil for both purposes because it’s the same consistency, and then i’d smell tropical all day (how fun is that?!).

Yoga is a good way to ease away sadness but so is shopping:-) Lets have a great day. Btw, Dad and I were alive and in San Francisco in the original hippie era!!
We DID have a great day! 😀
I am SO jealous you get to live in CO. 🙂
That cracked me up about people not being very cute there. I got told once while vising the NW coast that it was obvious was was from the East coast. LOL!

That means you’re a hottie! 😉
Ha, this is where I think you and I are opposites, my friend! I could not live somewhere so laid back and hippieish – I need my city hustle and bustle!

I suppose that’s where we balance each other out! 😉
That’s hilarious it worked well for your hair, I would’ve never thought of that!
I definitely use different products for not their original use – like clear mascara for brow gel, and coconut oil as moisturizer only sometimes though. That’s all I can think of for now;)

We have a salt candle holder that we got in Gatlinburg, TN… we’ve both licked it. Seriously though, if anyone told me they had one and had NOT tasted it, I’d probably call BS. No one is above that kind of temptation 😀

Haha – I agree!! I have so many hippie moments and I LOVE it! And you’re so right about the clothes, much more casual. Kirk and I were saying we miss the “dressed up” feel of Atlanta sometimes. It’s fun to dress up and kinda weird here. Oh well – I still LOVE Colorado!
