Hello – a little later than usual!
That’s because last night Shane and I had the pleasure of hanging out with some friends and blends in our neck of the woods.
Lauren (and Greg) and Lee (and Jason) came up to Prospect last night for the weekly Food Trucks! Lee and Jason are visiting Colorado from Atlanta, so I was happy to show them my little piece of Colorado last night. Although there weren’t as many trucks as usual, everyone found something yummy to eat (and drink )
I ended up getting sausage, shrimp and grits, which were tasty enough to clear my bowl!
It was great hanging out with Lauren and Greg – and getting to know Lee and Jason. I’ve read Lee’s blog for several years now, so of course it was really cool to meet her in person. They’re a super fun couple, and we wound up hanging out until they started shutting down the food trucks after 9:00. Good times!
However, I’m usually in bed by 9:00 (I know it’s sad, it’s ok if you judge!) so this morning waking up was a little rough for me.
Nothing a little (or a lot) coffee can’t fix! This organic Newman’s Own coffee is my absolute favorite! I buy boxes of it, and it’s all to myself, since Shane’s not an almond fan (which there’s just barely a hint of.)
Today’s a pretty busy day – I’ll be going until 8:30 tonight teaching and training and…what not– so I think I just might need to break my one cup/day rule today. Luckily, I’ve got a free hour from 6-7 to train myself, which brings me to the topic of this post!
A Training Update
For a while, I didn’t really have a workout schedule. From the months of January to May I was really just focused on healing ME. As far as workouts go, my focus was on doing workouts that sounded fun, but not too intense. I’d go to hot yoga a lot, do some circuit workouts, and take Niko on lots of walks. That’s about it!
wearing Old Navy activewear tank, Nike Tempo shorts, Saucony Virratas, and Lululemon jacket.
I still take Niko on lots of walks. She gets at least a 45 minute walk 5-7 days a week (per the Paige’s made up doggy recommended standards!) Shane joined me on the walk above Sunday before church. And I also still go to hot yoga 3x’s/week. And obviously, I still hike – but as much of a cardio workout as that is, I definitely do not think of it as a “workout.” But recently, I’ve added in some scheduled workouts – not just fly at the seat of my pants ones.

Like doing couch 2 5k! My friend Katie started it last week, and it’s been so long since I’ve been running that I decided to go ahead and do it with her. I won’t be training for any half marathons anytime soon, but it’s nice to get my legs running again. Plus, Colorado’s a really pretty place to view by foot
So in addition to doing that 3 days a week (sometimes 2) I’ve been adding in a consistence resistance training workout twice a week. Since I’m only lifting twice a week (in addition to some body weight exercises when I teach my boot camp classes – and yoga) I’ve been doing full body workouts, which are actually my favorite!
Katie and I did this workout twice last week, and I’ll be doing another (less circuit-y) FB workout twice again this week. My goals right now are to get stronger and in a little better cardiovascular shape. I lost a little of both in the last few months, and while I’m not looking to beat anyone in races or make huge gains in strength, I’d like to improve a little in both areas.
So that’s that!
And now I’m off to get ready for the day. Have a great Tuesday, loves!
What’s your workout schedule look like right now?
How far do you and Lauren live from one another? That’s so fun that you guys can hang out so often!
Currently, I’m stepping up my exercise a bit and doing Fitnessita’s Summer Shape Up to help motivate me a bit to get back into fitness since I’ve taken a long hiatus from it!

Not far! Like 20-25 minutes.
Being pregnant is varies week to week, usually I aim for 3 days at the gym (30 mins cardio 30 mins weight), one day at home – run, prenatal DVD and one day of prenatal yoga.
Happy to see you spent 5 months working on healing yourself and feeling good!

I would never judge you for going to bed early, I am a grandma myself!

I love checking out the food trucks. So fun. The past few months, I’ve “just” been doing CrossFit 4-5x a week. Now that school is getting out, I’m excited to mix it up some more with running, yoga, etc.

Right now I’m in the middle of the Insanity workout program. I love it, but I’m ready to get into some other stuff!

Most Canadian city bylaws don’t allow for food trucks, which is sad because they look like so much fun! Right now, I’m biking to work (just over 5 miles round trip) 4-5 times a week and heavy lifting 3-4 days a week for about 45 minute sessions. Once I get some more free time, I’d love to throw some yoga in there…my muscles could use the stretch!

Oh boy, I am lacking in the workout department. For almost a month now I have been concentrating on healing. I know that I should be doing something, and I’ve been going for walks here and there, and a few hikes (plus the bootcamps and yoga at Blend) and I ran and walked a ton every day in San Francisco, but the last two weeks I just haven’t had the energy. Hopefully once I start reintroducing foods I’ll be back at it again. It’ll be a slow and easy pace getting back into the swing of things, that’s for sure!
I go to bed super early too… 5:30am comes up for too fast! And how fun is that you get to spend more time with Lauren! I need more blend time 🙂

Lately, I’ve been doing Jillian’s Body Revolution workouts. I really like them because you get cardio and strength. The strength workouts also incorporate workouts that I wouldn’t normally do. Just here recently I started going for a run, too, on Saturday and Sunday. Of course, my dog Max, gets lots of walks just like Niko. 😉

It’s funny- Greg was asking me about what you do for your workouts just yesterday (I was talking about how you used to run a lot but had changed your routine a bit and incorporated more yoga). As you know, mine have changed 180˚ since moving here- I went from teaching Spinning and Bodypump 7x a week to no high-intensity cardio, lots of heavy lifting and lots of hiking. I think I’m a fan of the latter…
Food truck night was SO fun (and I love the photo of us- I’m going to steal it!) but I didn’t get to bed until 11 and woke up with a hangover! PATHETIC!

I had a lot of fun, too! Nice to get out on a school night 😉
I’m kinda like you for workouts. My favorite workouts usually involve 2-3 big compound lifts (deadlifts, squats, pull ups, bench, etc) and then a few supporting lifts 3 days/week. And yoga. And hiking for cardio 😉
Sounds like a great routine! Mine has changed a bit since they released the new class schedule at the gym. It varies week to week, but usually involves 1-2 yoga classes, 1-2 pilates classes, a barre class (except for the 4 weeks I’ve been taking ballroom dancing, woo!), 1-2 weights/interval classes and 1-2 spin classes. And hopefully there’s a round of golf and/or a hike on the weekends. And a rest day thrown in as well 🙂

I think it is great to re-evaluate what you want to work on and why. I love your reasoning- not trying to beat anyone just yourself. I think of that a lot. I don’t compare myself to others in terms of physical fitness (well, I try not to) because everyone is different, but we should focus on how to improve ourselves!

Loving your approach to upping the cardio and strength training a bit. Not going all psycho-crazy on it, just trying to get a little stronger, and a little more endurance. It’s totally realistic and practical for the average woman out there, I love it. Not everyone can be the strongest/fastest/bestest person ever haha.

My workout schedule has been so day-to-day. I’ve been doing a lot of the GPP workouts lately and i LOVE them but sometimes I don’t feel comfortable doing them on my own (no injuries!) so I’ll do something else. I’ve been throwing in some of my own created workouts, some Tone It Up workouts and running a few days/week.
