Some thoughts and discussions from me.
Good morning!
Man, we have gotten a beat down here in Colorado with this blizzard passing through. It has been snowing for three days straight, and while we need the moisture, and it’s pretty, it makes commutes pretty darn difficult.
Monday night it took me double the time to drive back home from teaching a class at the gym, and Tuesday morning I got about 10 minutes into my trip, called the gym to cancel my class, and turned around back home. The roads were just pure ice! Blech. I’m more than ready for spring (and LOTS of hiking )
Luckily, I live very close to the other gym I train at, and was able to safely make my morning and afternoon appointments. In between I did some computer work, cleaning, and took a noon hot yoga class.
It was a juicy, delicious, yummy class! Just kidding. I hate ALL of those words to describe yoga. They all make me cringe, and I hate when instructors describe a pose like that! It was actually just what I needed – not too difficult, and left me feeling all “ahhhhhhh” at the end
Post-yoga lunch:
I actually made this the night before for dinner before leaving to teach class, but I didn’t get home until around 8:00, so I had a bowl of oatmeal instead. Sure made for a great lunch the next day (in its original leftover glass and all, lol)
One reason I like to go to yoga is because it forces me to be still and sit with my feelings. All day it seems like I stay busy – and if I’m not busy, I find something to keep me busy – and I hardly ever have any quiet time with my thoughts. Yoga tends to force me to be real with what’s going on with myself at that moment.
It also helps me to not be so impulsive; to stop and think a bit before I act.
The other day I was watching Ellen (love Ellen!) and she was running a segment on hugely embarrassing instagrams and tweets that random people have sent out. The point of the segment was to poke fun at these people, but then at the end, Ellen mentioned how all of these people undoubtedly regret publishing something so absurd out into the public.
It actually got me thinking…yep, I’ve definitely pressed publish on a few things I wish I could take back!
In fact, the other week when I was hiking with Lauren, we got to talking about blogging a little bit – and how we keep certain aspects of our personal lives off the blog. I admitted that I’ve written several posts that now looking back in hindsight I wish I hadn’t ever posted. Although at the time in my heart, I felt like sharing some of the more intimate, personal details of my life on the blog, I’ve also turned around and said, “man, I regret posting that.”
I blame it on the impulsive (type A) side of my personality, but there’s been a number of posts that I looked back and thought that they were probably a little too personal. Additionally, there have been some posts (namely in the first year of the blog, heh) where I’m just downright embarrassed of my writing! Another example – yesterday I had a fun and silly post all set to go up, and then the tragedy at Boston happened. I would have likely regretted publishing a light-hearted, fun post after that.
Have you ever published anything to social media that you came to regret later?
(If you answer no, I call your bluff! I think we’ve all posted a FB status update that probably didn’t need to be known to the public ha!)
Thankfully I haven’t shared any blog posts that I’ve come to regret, yet. I have an unfortunate history with drunken facebook updates years ago during my party days that I’m hoping will never come back to haunt me lol

This is so true! I try to stay pretty private on my blog but I can guarantee there has been at least one time where I have looked back and questioned why I posted something!

I think every blogger has posted something that they’ve regretted at one point or another…especially in the beginning days when you’re still figuring out what approach you’re going to be taking to blogging. Happens to everyone!

It is all an evolution right? Still just trying to figure it all out.

I don’t like the word “regret” and choose to live my life without them, but rather with opportunities to learn and grow. Are there things I’ve posted on the internet that I wish I had done or worded differently? Of course. But would I regret them? No because it offered me an opportunity to learn and think twice before posting.

Oh I’ve definitely posted things on Facebook or Twitter that I regret!

I’ve definitely posted Facebook statuses that I wish I could take back!! I think I’ve done pretty well on the blog thus far. I’m a pretty private person by nature so I’m very aware of what I do and don’t want out there.

definitely!! Sometimes I go back and cringe when I read the posts I should have never published!

Ughhh seriously. The snow and weird precipitation can stop any time now. Although I was pretty happy to get a snow day from school last week!!! I tend not to overshare. If I’m going to write something personal on my blog, I usually think about it for a few weeks first. But I’m sure it will happen sometime!!!

I hate when people use those words to describe yoga too! Makes my tummy turn. I have definitely almost posted MANY posts that I ended up deleting. I love blogging, but I don’t want the world to know my entire life ;). Hope you have a great day lady

Ohhhhh I’m sure I have. Can’t think of it RIGHT now, but I definitely have! I don’t want you to call my bluff 😉 HA!

I think most of my, “I regret posting that” posts–whether to the blog or Facebook–are situations where I thought I was being super witty and thought so many people would “like” the post, and then I end up getting very little or no feedback. Hah.

I think REALLY carefully before posting things on Facebook. I stay away from anything political, religious or otherwise controversial because it makes me CRINGE when others post about all of that so freely. My brother broke up with his girlfriend recently (she cheated on him) and he posted all of this crazy, mean stuff about her (and he’s not 16- he’s 35!). I told him he needed to delete it all and STOP posting things like that- which he did, but still, it was out there and people saw it.
I’ve posted some very personal stuff on my blog before, but I don’t think I regret any of it. I used to be a lot more “free” with what I would share, but that’s changed a lot in the last year. I try to think before I react (which is not easy for me) and always write posts in advance- so that I can change them before they’re published if needed.
And I think that if you had your “planned” post up yesterday, it would’ve been fine. It definitely wouldn’t mean that you don’t care about what happened in Boston- because the blog is only a small part of you and what you share. You just have to go with what feels RIGHT.

I definitely have questioned what I was thinking with some things, but it’s all part of growth and learning, right?
And I totally agree with you on the yummy, juicy comments in yoga. I bought a Lululemon yoga DVD and hated it because that’s all the instructor would say throughout the entire practice! I still can’t play it 🙁
I feel your pain on the late snow… it’s still far too cold and snowy here in Calgary, I wish spring would make it’s way here soon!

LOL now I’m intrigued as to what posts you regret! I’m sure a lot of people will be digging through your archives haha
I’ve never blogged anything I’ve regretted, but I have certainly put some things on Facebook I shouldn’t have. Last year I went through a massive deleting spree of my old timeline posts and I couldn’t believe some of the things I had up there! Yikes. Luckily I have since matured 😉

LOL – I wasn’t about to link back to them 😉 haha
Oh goodness yes. That mostly happens on Facebook/Twitter and I’ve been known to frantically delete a post. I tend to overshare on my blog, but for some reason I rarely regret those posts.

Of course! And honestly, there are times I’m on the other side and think that I should have blogged about something that I didn’t. 🙂
